The 10 Most World-Changing Ads

1952 Give Yourself A Break: Would it be a crazy thing if workers threatened to go on a strike if they were not given a Coffee break? Well apparently yes!

Back in 1950’s a Pan-American Coffee Bureau ran an Advertisement encouraging workers to take a break from work with the slogan ‘Give yourself a break’.

This Advertisement captivated the American working population, which later had laws to protect workers and also give compulsory coffee breaks at regular intervals. This became something to bargain for by workers who refused jobs or go on strikes if they did not have the privilege to take a coffee break.

1954 The Marlboro Man: The famous cigarette brand that is still very much the leading brand around the world ran a slogan back in the 1950’s to promote their cigarette. It may be of information for smokers that Marlboro was once a ‘woman’s cigarette’. Well when the harmful effects of tobacco was made known back in the early 1950’s, cigarette manufacturer Phillip Morris & Co. was losing the market and their slogan ‘Mild as May’ was not attracting any customers.

So to change this they asked Ad agency Leo Burnett Worldwide to help boost their market. Hence came the slogan and name ‘The Marlboro Man’ which was a sudden hit as it showed the cigarette was for rugged strong men, plus it was the choice of the Cowboys back then. This sudden change in the slogan boosted their sales from $5 billion to $20 billion. The Marlboro cigarettes are filtered, which is a healthier alternative.
