Tesla India is Refunding Early Bookers of Its Model 3
Tesla Inc. is refunding earlier customers who placed pre-orders for its Model 3, according to emails procured by Bloomberg News. The move has set tongues wagging that the United States-based electric car maker is getting ready to open shop in India, which is the third-largest car market globally.
The messages, which were directed to the customers who reserved their Model 3s back in 2016, read, "We would like to refund your reservation fee for now. When we solidify our options in India, we will call on the market again.". We look forward to welcoming you back when we are set to roll out and bring this to your nation." This decision comes as Tesla discontinues the older generation Model 3, leading the firm to refund such long-time reservations.
The email from Tesla, which came from official company domains, implies that the carmaker is advancing towards the Indian market after years of reluctance owing to the nation's high import duties on electric cars.
Tesla's possible entry into India has long been awaited, and these recent moves could be a sign that the company is finally set to make its presence felt in the country. While Tesla continues to iron out its offerings, the refunds could be the precursor to a more customized approach to suit the needs of Indian consumers once the company officially launches its products in the country.
