Tata Electronics successfully acquired 100% stake in Wistron India
Tata Electronics has accomplished a historic feat by entirely acquiring Wistron India. This makes them the first Indian firm to manufacture iPhones for Apple. The acquisition was officially announced in October and will enable the Tata Group to expand its operations into iPhone assembly in India, marking a groundbreaking development in the smartphone manufacturing industry. Tata's commitment to India's Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) industry growth is demonstrated through the Share Purchase Agreement with Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Limited near Bengaluru. CEO Randhir Thakur stresses the significance of this milestone and expresses gratitude to the Wistron team for their collaboration.
The Tata Group has made an important deal in the smartphone manufacturing sector, pending necessary approvals. This aligns with the Indian government's supportive policies for the manufacturing industry. MoS IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has congratulated the Tata Group for this achievement, highlighting India's growing prominence in smartphone manufacturing and exports under PM Modi's PLI scheme. With this acquisition, the Tata Group is now among the elite iPhone manufacturers, including Foxconn, Pegatron, Luxshare, and Wistron.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted a strategic collaboration between Tata Electronics, Foxconn, and Pegatron for the initial manufacturing of the iPhone 17, which is set to launch in 2025. This move indicates that Apple is proactively diversifying its supply chain away from China, marking a significant development in the tech giant’s global manufacturing strategy.
