Piyush Goyal Discusses FTAs with UK and EU Counterparts
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, conducted bilateral discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties and progressing free trade agreements (FTAs) with the UK and EU. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the G7 trade ministers’ meeting in Reggio Calabria, Italy, according to an official statement released.
Goyal met with Jonathan Reynolds, the newly appointed UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade, to congratulate him and discuss enhancing bilateral economic relations. They also focused on advancing the FTA discussions between India and the UK.
In another significant meeting, Goyal spoke with Valdis Dombrovskis, Executive Vice President of the European Commission. Their talks centered on boosting India-EU trade and economic collaborations, with an emphasis on ongoing FTA negotiations. Both parties explored ways to strengthen cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
Additionally, Goyal engaged with Antonio Tajani, Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. They agreed to enhance bilateral trade and investments, industrial co-production, and cooperation in clean technologies. Goyal also praised Tajani for hosting a productive G7 Trade Ministers' meeting.
Goyal's discussions with New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay focused on enhancing bilateral trade and investment ties for mutual growth, aiming to further strengthen the robust trade relationship between India and New Zealand.
Furthermore, Goyal met with Robert Habeck, Germany's Federal Minister for Economic Affairs & Climate Action. Their conversation revolved around elevating the growing Indo-German trade and economic partnership, with specific focus on the upcoming Inter-Governmental Consultations and the Asia-Pacific Conference of German Businesses in Delhi.
These strategic bilateral engagements are anticipated to pave the way for significant advancements in India's trade relations with key international partners, the official statement concluded.
