Ted Turner

He is an American media tycoon and is known as the founder of the cable news network CNN which was the first 24 hour cable news channel, he also founded WTBS which is pioneered the superstation concept in cable television. Turner is known for his $1 billion charity to United Nations causes, which gave rise to United Nations Foundation, a public charity. He also serves as the Chairman of the United Nations foundation Board of directors. In 1970 he purchased the Atlanta UHF station and began Turner Broadcasting system. In 1990s he owned a popular wrestling company known as the World Championship Wrestling. Turner founded the Goodwill games as a statement for peace through sports. The American humanist Association named him the humanist of the year in 1990 and also received the Bower award from the Franklin Institute. Turner wrote a book called “Call me Ted” in 2008.
