Ericsson and Indian Statistical Institute Sign 3-Year Research Deal
Ericsson Research and the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) have solidified a three-year collaboration focused on conducting mutual research in the field of secure and dependable Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), Ericsson Research will extend support and participate in diverse research endeavors alongside ISI, establishing a joint research hub named the Center for Cyber-Physical Systems (C-CPS).
As per the press release, C-CPS has been conceptualized as an interdisciplinary virtual research hub committed to advancing fundamental and applied research in Sustainable and Trustworthy Cyber-Physical Systems. This collaboration prioritizes making immediate strides in the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and CPS within the Indian ecosystem.
Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director of ISI Kolkata, highlighted the importance of research in safe and reliable CPS for developing next-generation autonomy technologies. She emphasized ISI's conducive environment for collaborative translational research and welcomed the establishment of the ISI-Ericsson research centre.
Magnus Frodigh, the Head of Ericsson Research, explained the importance of the partnership, emphasizing Ericsson's dedication to research and development in India, particularly in the fields of computing and AI research. Frodigh also shared Ericsson's vision for 6G, which aims to merge the physical and digital worlds by utilizing extensive sensor-based communications between humans and machines through digital twins.
Nitin Bansal, Managing Director of Ericsson India, emphasized the company's strong focus on research and development, highlighting the belief that partnerships with academic institutions in AI and 6G will contribute to building a robust foundation for India's 6G programme.
