India Signs MoU With Mozambique For Import Of 3.75 Lakh Tonne Pulses


NEW DELHI: India has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Mozambique for the import of 3.75 lakh tonne pulses over three years, the government told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.        

"The government has signed a MOU with Mozambique, which fixes targets of minimum quantities of import of 'tur' and other pulses over three financial years," Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman said in her written reply.    

According to the MoU, 1 lakh tonne of pulses will be imported in the current fiscal, 1.25 lakh tonne in 2017-18 and 1.50 lakh tonne of pulses during 2018-19, Sitharaman said.       

In 2015-16, India had imported 57.97 lakh tonne pulses for $3.90 billion.
