Finally Oneplus Sets Up Plant In India

BENGALURU: PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Make In India’ slogan has worked its magic as more number of Smartphone companies are joining hands together to manufacture their products in India. Now Chinese phone maker OnePlus said it had entered into an agreement with Foxconn Technology to manufacture phones in India, according to thestar.com.

Now OnePlus has announced plans to start assembling smartphone in India and it will partner with Foxconn to assemble smartphone from the latter’s manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. India, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sought to reboot manufacturing, but the country is yet to rival China, particularly in technology where most factories have the assembly units to begin with.

However, till date OnePlus has sold over 2,50,000 units of OnePlus One in India and almost 15,000 units of the new OnePlus Two in the first twelve minutes of the open sale held on Amazon India today. Ever since OnePlus debuted in India, the phone maker has been deluged with requests for invites to buy the products, with more than 5 million registrations worldwide for the latest release the OnePlus 2 alone.

Despite the best of intentions to expedite the availability process, the phone makers have been constrained by a few supply chain related challenges in meeting consumer demands. However the local production of Oneplus will start this yearend and the peak production capacity will be around 5,00,000 units per month. But other rivals like Oppo and Xiaomi have already deepen their interests for manufacturing in India and this move will make quiet some competition between them.
