BENGALURU: American tech giant, Apple, after having conquered China’s Smartphone market, is now planning to increase its user base in India. The company now aims to increase its sales within the target of three years, reports ET.

Optiemus Group, a Delhi-based distributor, has struck a deal with Apple and has now become the fifth iPhone distributor in India. Other iPhone distributors in the country include Redington, Ingram Micro, Rashi Peripherals and Brightstar.

Optiemus Group also distributes Smartphones of other companies such as Samsung and HTC. However, with this new distributorship the group has a clear goal of expanding the user base of Apple.

"Since shipment figures are one of the indicators of success in the smartphone industry, any new distributor Apple appoints will lead to an instant surge in shipments, which will help it to achieve the target fixed by headquarters and will also lead to a significant jump in retail reach," an industry executive said.

According to the statistics, Apple sold more than 1 million iPhones in India and it is preparing itself for even more fierce competition from rival like Samsung. Apple is fixing the sales target of 2 million this financial year even as Samsung is already giving it a tough competition.

As per Counterpoint Research, Samsung overtook Apple in India for Q1 and immediately launched more high-end Smartphones like Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which further loosen the Apple’s grip over Indian consumer market.
