But after having the cup of coffee, if it is informed that the coffee beans were extracted from the poop of a civet (a catlike animal of Central Africa), all the refreshment of the coffee might get lost. Sounds unbelievable, but true!

Kopi Luwak or civet coffee is a variety of coffee beans that has been digested once by an Asian Palm Civet and is extracted from its poops. Fermentation of the beans takes place inside the civet’s stomach. The digested coffee beans are collected from the droppings of the civet and are roasted finely.

The origin of civet coffee lies in the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra and its production started in the 1980s. The rising demand of this variety of coffee has made it to be harvested in some other parts of the world too. One cup of Kopi Luwak might cost $20 to $65.
