Even in difficult economic times, technology develops rapidly and IT businesses cannot just sit back and ride out the recession. Those wanting to grow need both innovative products combined with an exceptional business plan.

Today, it is more important than ever for Technology Companies to have a strategy that focuses on clearly communicating the business benefits. IT companies can be very technically oriented and efforts to deliver outstanding products are often at the expense of developing a clear business strategy. The result is that the best products aren't always the most successful.

In the last year, it was never as true as ever, everything revolved around customer focus; what people you bring into the company and when, what technology you build and what features you add to the specification; everything. All these had to be constantly monitored, strategically planned and agressively put forth. Those who could do this survived.

It is an interesting time to look or rather relook at the technology landscape. The clouds of recession is slowly receding and businesses are getting back to normalcy.
At a time when several conglomerates closed down and many suffered a fatal blow, it was the start ups and young businesses that held their nerve and shined through. While there were several new companies that boomed last year, also saw successful exits of startups like Mint, Jajah, Mimosa, Kazeon and more.

This is why we decided to bring out our special issue on Top 10 promising companies. To compile the list, we had deep discussions with as many as 50 U.S. based Indian entrepreneurs, whose hallmark is their passion for their startups and long-term commitment. But in the end we narrowed down the list to 10 promising companies that despite tough times continue to shine with their edgier ideas, smarter operations and sheer guts to do something different.
