Developer Summit 2008 that was held on September 10 in Bangalore. A two-day event, the Summit was focused on offering a unique opportunity to developers to gain insights into the design and development of rich internet applications (RIAs). With various in depth technical sessions on Flex, such as integrating with various backends using Web Services, Remoting and Messaging, Cairngorm architecture, developing rich media applications, best practices in RIA development and testing of Rich Internet Applications; the event was a technologist's paradise.

Ben Forta, Director - Evangelism, and Michele Turner, VP – Platform kick started the event with their talks on the impact of RIAs. "Adobe revolutionizes how the world engages with ideas and information. With the advent of web 2.0, Adobe's RIA platform - powered by the ubiquitous Flash Player & Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) has become the technology of choice for delivering compelling user experiences across browsers, desktops and devices. From financial services to media and entertainment, major players in the industry rely upon Adobe Flex to deliver next generation experiences, be it a consumer Internet application or an enterprise application," said Forta.

During the keynote, Adobe revealed its future plans to venture into the mobile world through its Open Screen Project. Explaining about the project, Michele said, "We started this project about six months back in order to encourage developers to develop RIAs for mobile devices on the Adobe Flash platform. The idea is to develop RIAs for mobile devices that can be seamlessly used in various devices irrespective of the operating system they support." To promote the project, Adobe has been working with its partners like ARM, Cisco, Intel, Nokia, Comcast, MTV Networks, NBC-Universal, Qualcomm and Sony Ericsson to name a few.
Over the two days, Adobe evangelists and engineers delivered various technical sessions to help developers learn and get insights into the design and development of RIA using Flex.

All sessions were very interactive and many enthusiastic developers swarmed the speakers even after the sessions. To keep up the high spirits till the end of the summit, Adobe treated all the attendees by giving away Adobe Flex Builder 3 for free.
