Despite the slow growth of virtualization in India the hardware vendor Hewlett Packard (HP) has unveiled its HP Left Hand P4000 SAN virtual servers targeted at the emerging businesses. The new release was brought out by using the resources of Left Hand Networks, an Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) solution provider, acquired by HP in October 2008. Emphasizing the importance of the Indian market for iSCSI solutions, as India and China account for more than 50 percent of the $433 million iSCSI Asia Pacific market, the company has partnered with virtualization leaders like VMware and Microsoft for their solutions. The cost of the solution begins at Rs. 2.5 lakhs per terabyte, inclusive of all added software costs. Amit Malhotra, Manager Volume Storage, APAC and Japan says, “Virtualization in India is low, compared to the developed economies and the lack of proper awareness schemes on the part of the companies can be deduced to be a reason for the failure.”
