India houses ARM’s largest chip design center

The U.K. based Chip designer ARM hooked the tag of second largest design center outside Cambridge with the extension of its design center in Bangalore. The new center would make it possible to double the number of staff to 700 from the 350 it currently employs.

“ARM is not scouting around to fill the vacancies; on the contrary it would hand pick best of the talent, said Anil Gupta, Managing Director, ARM. To solve the problem of tracking the appropriate talent, ARM is investing significant amount in its academic alliances, and learning and development programs.

The company with 7,000 engineers worldwide doesn’t make chips, but rather sells its designs to other companies for incorporation in their chips. The Bangalore design center is involved in designing ARM’s processors and developing VLSI component libraries. His Royal Highness The Prince Andrew, The Duke of York KG, KCVO, inaugurated the center.
