It’s the scene of proliferation of applications, as its importance is gradually on an upside in devices ranging from netbooks, tablets, smart TVs to other portable devices and in-car systems. The robust growth demands the app developers to focus on feature-rich and cost effective applications in order to survive in today’s highly competitive environment. Even the developers find it difficult to meet increased demand.

Developing an app supported by multiple platforms, marketing and portability are some of the blocks on the developer’s way. By understanding the need of the hour In January 2010, Intel launched AppUp, an app store designed to allow developers to submit apps which will be later sold to various manufacturers and Service providers. In a short span of time AppUp has got around 15,000 applications and 25,000 registered developers.
Intel also trying to help the developers to build single app for multiple platform, as it would turn away the costs of re- building the same app multiple times for different platforms and it would save time.

To grow developer engagement, accelerate application development and scale application porting, Intel is running the Intel AppUp Developer Program and has also created a ‘Million Dollar Development Fund’. The fund provides financial incentives, marketing exposure to developers with the objective of reducing barrier to entry for new application development and accelerating time to market. The development fund is available to individual and student developers as well as small, medium and large software companies who submit applications through the Intel AppUp Developer Program.

Scott Apeland, Director of Developer Network, Intel said, “Intel’s AppUp Developer Program, is designed to drive innovative applications for end users and new revenue opportunities for independent developers and software vendors. The company has already taken different steps like funding the best developer ideas to bring them to limelight, conducting contest and providing platform to help the developers meet each other and share their ideas. All of these have brought a drastic change in the entire app developmental scenario.”

AppUp helps the developers to reach the audience. Narendra Bhandari, Director, Asia Pacific, Intel Software and Services said that Intel pays 60 percent of the revenue to the developers and the 40 percent is shared by the Intel and the other retailers.
