Honeywell CIOs are responsible for focusing on innovation as well as meeting productivity and quality goals. An innovative CIO understands the importance of maintaining a link between the business leaders and IT, and works to implement creative strategies that will help them meet their goals. CIOs need to expand their knowledge base by reaching out to leaders in other parts of the organization such as business process outsourcing, finance, and human resources.

One innovative approach, virtualization, has been a buzzword for some time now. This technology offers several advantages such as cost savings, energy efficiency, resilience, performance, and capacity management.
At Honeywell, we are beginning to implement virtualization. It has already helped us consolidate computing infrastructures. For example, six physical servers are now one virtual server, reducing operational and maintenance costs. In addition to achieving cost savings, we improved application performance and the virtual guests now execute on more powerful hardware. Moreover, deployment of software operating systems can be performed with greater speed and efficiency. Further benefits include the ability to add hardware capacity in a non-disruptive manner and to dynamically migrate workloads to available resources.New approaches such as virtualization are helping organizations cut costs, increase quality and productivity while keeping pace with the rapidly changing global environment.

Honeywell International is a $38 billion diversified technology and manufacturing leader, serving customers worldwide with aerospace products and services; control technologies for buildings, homes and industry; automotive products; turbochargers; and specialty materials. Honeywell is based in Morris Township, N.J.
