Most professionals shy away from learning English, embarrassed by the thought that their colleagues will find out,” says Ninad Karpe, CEO and MD of Aptech, a global retail and corporate training solutions provider headquartered in Mumbai. “As a solution to this, we have come out with a unique initiative called the ‘Digital Language Lab’, which will address such factors. The company has approached corporate firms for tie-ups,” Karpe explained. He was speaking at the launch of the English Express learning academy, set up to impart English training to students and professionals alike.

The market for English training in India is estimated to be approximately $1.4 billion annually. To tap this market, Aptech is tying up with colleges, universities, and state governments. Having opened its first four centers in Bangalore, it plans to set up around 100 more centers in the country in one year. The company has entered into partnership with Cambridge University Press for course content, University of Cambridge for certification, and Glottophone for infrastructure. The courses are available at fees ranging from Rs. 7,000 to 8,000 for professionals and Rs. 3,000 to 4,000 for beginners.
