Large number of engineering students graduates every year, despite the fact that unemployment rates remain high. According to 2012 National Employability Report, about 83 percent of engineering graduates are unfit for employment, while 20-33 percent out of the 1.5 million engineering graduates passing out every year runs the risk of not getting a job at all. Those who get the jobs, the entry-level salary are very low, and have stagnated at that level for past many years. An impressive academic record by itself does not make a student a good engineer. One must plan well in advance his/her studies and career.
A fresh engineer graduate needs to be conversant with global trends and pioneering research done worldwide. To acquaint himself with the challenges that he/she will face in the future, the engineering student should re-examine and realign his goals with the current scenario that prevails and should search for add-on courses after engineering that will help him/her to out-stand the competition and secure future. He should also keep himself abreast of recent trends in business and technology. A student after engineering needs to match real-life practical applications and the need of the companies, especially from a problem-solving perspective, which will land him/her in a job of his/her choice and interest with handsome package.
Majority of the technical skills are quite well-founded within students but all students are not lucky enough to get the job in the first attempt because of the competition in the job market for engineers or other reasons. A short term job oriented courses can serve as a bridge between the knowledge and the skills that employers expect. These job oriented diploma courses can provide student practical knowledge in the related field in order to get an extra edge over other students just having engineering degree.
There are various courses after engineering- SAP, Red Hat Certified Engineer, C, C++, JAVA, SQL, Robotics, Software Testing, Software and Web Developing, Oracle, Information Security and ethical Hacking, Animation and Multimedia, Digital Marketing, CCNA, CCNP, PCB Designing, CADD, Networking, Circuit Analysis, Advanced Training in System Engineering, SPC Course, 5S Certification, Technical Drawing and designing and others. These courses will give engineering student an upper hand and will out-stand them in job competition and help them in building their dream career.
These fields are progressing at a rapid pace that a mere graduation won't help student to get jobs. The key is to stay up-to-date. There are various private institutes offering these after-engineering courses. One must select the best available course which will offer him/her some advantage over other engineering graduates.
