Tecno has unveiled its new innovation in foldable smartphone tech with the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, a tri-fold concept phone that adds a new element to mobile phone design. With an inward-folding dual-hinge design, the phone opens up to show a huge 9.94-inch screen, one of the largest screen experiences from a foldable device.

The design adopts a G-fold style of folding, in which the screen folds twice to better protect the display when the device is shut. The foldable screen consists of three segments and employs a custom-developed hinge system that includes a small waterdrop hinge for the first fold and a larger primary hinge for the second. This system not only provides structural stability but also supports a self-locking system that keeps the phone closed tightly with no gap.

Tecno puts forward that the design also allows the device to stay afloat in a partially opened state whenever it is at different angles due to its multi-angle hovering feature, thus being suitable for a range of usage situations. The secondary cover display provides functionality akin to a standard smartphone when the device is folded. With a thickness of 11.49mm when folded and an unfolded thickness of a mere 3.49mm, Tecno states that Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept is the world's thinnest tri-fold smartphone, beating Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design at 3.6mm when unfolded.

The concept phone is powered by a high-performance chip, but Tecno hasn't revealed the specific model yet. It features a triple-camera system and a battery with a guaranteed capacity of more than 5,000mAh. The hinge itself is made of 2000MPa steel for extra strength, while the rear panel uses Titan Fibre to provide a premium and light feel. The phone also features a number of AI-powered capabilities as well as Tecno's internal voice assistant, Ella.

Although the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept highlights significant design and engineering developments, the company has yet to make any commercial release plans official. Tecno has assured that the device will make an appearance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026, highlighting its current status as a concept device.
