Sony Launches SQD SD Cards and MRW-E90 Card Reader


BENGALURU: The smartphone industry might be shying away from SD cards, but it is a well known that SD cards are cheaper than internal storage variants of smartphones. The best part associated with memory cards are that it is still popular in various fields like photography, which considers removable storage as the best alternative. Being wise to the trend, Sony launched a new range of SF and XQD SD cards along with the MRW-E90 card reader, with a price range starting at Rs 3,500 that aims to address the requirements of professional photographers. As reported by the Indian Express website, Sony SF-M delivers a speed of 260MB/s (read) and 100MB/s (write), while the XQD-M series provides a speed up to 440MB/s (read) and 150MB/s (write).

According to Sony, the new card reader technology clubbed in MRW-E90, has a backup capability of 64GB data in about 3 minutes. The XQD-M series is launched in three variants 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with an individual price range of Rs 3,500, Rs 6,700 and Rs 14,500.

The SD cards are inbuilt with UHS-II support that provides a faster transfer of data between the device and the PC. The SF-M series of Sony comes with a memory capacity of 32GB, 64GB and 128GB with a price range of Rs 4,795, Rs 7,215 and Rs 11,545. Sony SD cards are designed with the capabilities that are X-Ray proof, magnet proof, anti-static and dust proof. These SD cards are built with File rescue software that provides a data recovery functionality that helps retrieve information in case they are accidentally deleted.

The MRW-E90, an XQD/SD card reader from Sony, supports data transfer between PC to all UHS-II and XQD series SD cards. An XQD-G series is also offered by Sony that is incorporated with a capability of recording up to 200 frames in continuous burst shooting. It is designed to support high-end professional DSLR cameras like Nikon D5.
