- Samsung launches Galaxy XR, its first AI-powered extended reality headset, at $1,799.
- Powered by Qualcomm XR2+ Gen 2 chip and runs Android XR with support for Google apps.
- Offers 3D experiences, hand tracking, spatial AI, and access to 50+ XR-optimised apps.
Samsung has officially entered the extended reality (XR) race with the launch of its Galaxy XR headset, announced at the Worlds Wide Open event. Priced at $1,799, the headset is available in the US and Korea, directly competing with Apple’s Vision Pro, but at a more accessible price point.
The Galaxy XR runs on Android XR, Google’s new spatial operating system for headsets, and integrates Gemini AI for real-time contextual assistance. It’s designed to deliver rich 3D experiences and seamless multitasking through natural inputs like hand gestures, eye-tracking, and voice commands.
Under the hood, it’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Plus Gen 2, paired with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Micro-OLED display delivers stunning visuals with 27 million pixels, outperforming competitors in sharpness and clarity.
Samsung’s XR headset allows users to interact with the real world using passthrough mode, transform 2D photos and videos into 3D, explore landmarks in 3D via Google Maps, and even use Circle to Search by drawing in mid-air.

Thanks to Android XR, users get access to popular apps like YouTube, Maps, Photos, and Chrome, along with streaming services like Netflix and HBO Max. More than 50 XR-ready apps and games are available at launch from partners including Adobe, Calm, Fox Sports, and MLB.
The Galaxy XR is designed not just for entertainment, but also productivity with support for multi-window apps, external keyboards, and creative tools like Adobe’s Project Pulsar.
