New York: The Evo 4G smartphones by HTC is set to be launched in the U.S. market, come June 4, by wireless carrier Sprint. The smartphones boast of offering unparalleled data transfer rates. The cost of the device will be $200, with a two year service agreement.
The Evo 4G will require an Everything Data Plan, which starts at $69.99 per month, and a $10 "Premium Data Add-on" for WiMax, regardless of whether you live in a 4G coverage area, as confirmed by the Sprint and HTC representatives.
The phone can connect to WiMax wireless networks for voice and data applications but only in definite coverage areas. With a big 4.3-inch touch screen, the Evo 4G phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor. Additionally, it has 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS chip. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g for Wireless Internet. Evo has a Digital Compass, Proximity Sensor, Accelerometer and light sensor too.
The Evo comes with two cameras- a back-facing 8-megapixel auto-focus camera and a forward-facing 1.3-megapixel camera. This will enable multipoint videoconferencing. The estimated battery life is more than five hours. For its operating system, the phone uses Google's Android 2.1. Application wise more than 35,000 apps will be available. The device supports Adobe's Flash video platform, and will also be able to play back 720p video on an external monitor via an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) cable.
The launch of Evo comes amidst the news of photos and videos of yet another alleged iPhone 4G prototype appearing on a Vietnamese website Taoviet. According to MacRumors, the teardown pictures of the iPhone include the "N90" moniker, which is thought to be the internal code name for the next iPhone.
Coming to the Indian scenario, where we are having a hard time implementing the 3G spectrum, the 4G news sounds like a distant dream. However, all is not lost. Motorola is doing a trial run of 4G in India. And HTC is all geared up to bring in 4G devices to India. In fact, the process of introducing 4G services has begun, with the TRAI demanding industry views on the advanced system while preparing consultation papers on the same. So watch out for the 4G horizon spreading its wing in the country anytime soon.
