Gear Up For Galaxy Note 4 In September
SEOUL: Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy Note 4 in Berlin Sep 3, the Korea Times said.Samsung hopes the Galaxy Note 4 will counter Apple's new iPhone 6 which is also due for launch in September.
"Samsung will hold an event in Berlin to announce the Note 4 on Sep 3," a company executive was quoted as saying.
The South Korean company hopes that the Note 4 will help it get a fresh momentum to lift its handset business at a time when the company is being threatened by the rise of Chinese budget handset manufacturers.
Samsung may be readying a third generation Gear smartwatch for the second half of this year - despite the fact that the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are still brand new devices (being released in April).
According to undisclosed industry sources that talked to The Korea Herald, Samsung’s next-gen smartwatch (possibly called Gear 3) should be bundled with the upcoming Galaxy Note 4, which is expected to be officially announced in September. Last year, both the Galaxy Note 3 and the first Galaxy Gear were unveiled at IFA in September, so we shouldn’t be surprised to see Samsung doing something similar this year, with new models.
While there is no word on what the Gear 3 will bring, we assume it’s going to be based on Tizen - like the Gear 2 (pictured above) and Gear 2 Neo.
Before introducing the Gear 3, Samsung is expected to launch a smartwatch called Gear 2 Solo. This may resembles the current Gear 2 model, but it should add support for SIM cards - thus allowing users to place calls without the help of a paired smartphone. The alleged Gear Solo could be available as soon as July in South Korea and the US.
Samsung is also working on a smartwatch based on Google’s Android Wear. This, too, could be introduced later this year - but we'll see what happens.
