Xiaomi Mi 5 Hits the India Smartphone Territory Amid Speculations

BENGALURU: After a magnificent spell at Mobile World Congress 2016 at Barcelona last month, Chinese Smartphone giant Xiaomi has cleared all the rumor mills by finally announcing its most awaited Mi 5 in India.  Xiaomi officially confirmed this news at an event held in New Delhi where it also announced that the phone will be available for sale on mi.com from 6th April for a price of 24,999.

Supported by latest Snapdragon 820 processor and combined with Adreno 530 GPU, Mi 5 was critically acclaimed at the Mobile World Congress. The phone has 32GB storage, 3GB RAM and 3D glass body.

Mi 5 is the first smartphone to use Sony IMX298 16 mega pixels rear faced camera. The rear camera has sapphire lens cover armed with 4-axis OIS technology for blur-proof photo and videos. It supports phase detect AF along with a new technology called deep trench isolation (DTI), an image enhancement feature to offer pixel to pixel isolation. The phone has a 4 mega pixels 2688 x 1512 resolutions front camera with a pixel size of 2 micron. On the design side, Mi 5 is offering curved 3D glass body with gorilla glass 4 for durability and strength. Weighing barely 129g, Mi 5 is a very light to carry. This is the first smartphone from Xiaomi that comes with the fingerprint sensor technology in the front.

Powered with 3,000mAh battery, the phone is being guarded by aluminum alloy frames which is sandwiched between glasses on both sides and has a 5.15-inch screen. Based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow - MIUI 7, Mi 5 uses a UFS 2.0 flash memory, which it claims to be 87% faster in read-write operations.

75 % of the Xiaomi phones sold in India are locally assembled after establishing a manufacturing unit in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. In August 2015, Xiaomi had collaborated with Taiwanese company Foxconn to set up a local assembly unit of its phones to cater service in one of the world's fastest growing smartphone markets globally.
