Raspberry Pi 3 Announced Featuring a 64-bit CPU

BENGALURU: Gone are those days of buying a full spec PC for students or beginners, the game was changed by the Raspberry pi by the Raspberry Foundations. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.  The device is capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

The British company Raspberry Pi Foundation launched a new version of the palm sized machine, the raspberry Pi3. On behalf of its fourth birthday, the company unveiled the new version to go on sale for $35 (INR 2387 approx.), which its inventor says is the first to truly work as a fully-functioning PC. “In celebration of our fourth birthday, we thought it would be fun to release something new,” wrote the foundation in a blog post.

Making it as powerful as the laptops of the past, the new Raspberry Pi3 will feature significant upgrades on the previous versions of the micro computer. Powered by a Quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex A53 clocked at 1.2 GHz, the device is claimed to be at least 50% faster than its predecessor. Integrated with 802.11n Wireless LAN and Bluetooth 4.1, 400MHz VideoCore IV multimedia chip, the Raspberry Pi3 is the foundation’s first 64-bit device and the first one to integrate Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on the platform. The Raspberry Pi3 consists of only a circuit board and the connection ports for HDMI and USB peripherals.

Based out of London, UK, Raspberry Pi is a foundation which aims to encourage young people to get access to inexpensive computers, and get interested in coding through use of those machines. Founded in 2009, The Raspberry Pi Foundation is responsible for developing a single-board computer called the Raspberry Pi and promotes the study of basic computer science in schools.
