Qualcomm Launches Smartphone For Visually Impaired


Bangalore: Qualcomm the smartphone chip maker has announced a new smartphone especially for the visually impaired. The smartphone has been developed by Qualcomm in association with Project Ray and called the smartphone as Ray. The Project Ray designs accessibility tools especially for visually impaired people.

The smartphone Ray  has specially designed user interface which grasps the gestures and sounds to allow visually impaired people to use the smartphone and makes it very easy.

"The breakthrough UI defines a new language for human device interaction that is built ground-up for eye free operation," said Boaz Zilberman, CEO of Project Ray.

"We believe the Project Ray device will enhance the ability of the blind and visually impaired people to access resources and information independently," said Don Rosenberg, executive vice president and general counsel for Qualcomm.

The phone can be navigated by simple finger movements in different directions. When the user touches any part of the screen than that touched portion will act as the starting point for selection audio book, messaging or any other activities like making call.

 The Qualcomm Ray has built in vibration and voice prompts to provide feedback and also the intelligent UI will adopt the users’ behavior and patterns to provide a great feedback. Apart from all this exciting development in the device, it can also allow to access entertainment and information on the go.

The Ray smartphone will be available by November 20 as stated on Project Ray website. We hope it will be available in the Indian market on the same day.
