OnePlus 5T vs OnePlus 5 - Which are best for buy Your Next Phone?

With the launch of OnePlus 5 smart phones which was later upgraded to OnePlus 5T, this smart phone proved to be a straight winner right from the beginning with numerous features, best look and design and to top it all it is a mid range phone. OnePlus generated huge revenue from the sale of OnePlus 5 sets which eventually went on to become the best phone of the year. Naturally customers had huge expectations from the next production of OnePlus and here comes OnePlus 5T, the much awaited successor of OnePlus 5. While OnePlus 5 was at a comfortable range of 32,999 INR, OnePlus 5T has the cost hiked up a bit to 37999 INR. Being a higher version of OnePlus 5, many may want to upgrade to OnePlus 5T but let's just compare and analyze whether the up gradation will be worth it.

Design & Built

This year almost every smart phone is following a certain template-less bezels with metal body and less width. So, OnePlus 5T too follows the same style and looks quite similar to iPhone which in turn has made the innovation score on the display front nil.

From the front, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T look pretty much the large and in the rear the placement of dual camera has changed from the center to the top left. The buttons are placed in the same place and they still use the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack with C type USB Connector.

On the display front just like OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T too has opted for 6.01FHD Optic AMOLED display. An extra feature is that OnePlus 5T supports DCI P3 GAMUT which displays wider range of colors that the OnePlus 5 sets lacks. But this feature will not be of much help if you cannot make out the fine changes which are actually not much noticeable.

As for the built OnePlus 5T has got more rounded edges in its metal unibody construction which gives better grip and comfortable hold. The weight of the phone has also increased from its predecessor from 153 gms to 162 gms. The thickness of the phones is negligible as OnePlus 5T is 7.3 mm thick and OnePlus 5 is 7.2 mm thick.

Camera

OnePlus 5T has got dual camera with the main camera which is 16-megapixel Sony IMX 398 sensor with an f/1.7 aperture while the front is 16-megapixel telephoto camera which is Sony IMX 350 sensor, with an f/2.6 aperture. OnePlus 5 set has 16-megapixel Sony IMX 298 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, OIS and EIS. OnePlus 5T does not have OIS in the primary camera which makes a bit of a difference. For selfies, both the phones have EIS, 16-megapixel camera with a 1-micron pixel Sony IMX 371 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. Though the architecture shows enhanced features yet customers feedbacks are not that great about the camera of OnePlus 5T.

Battery

OnePlus 5 came with a battery setup of 3300mAh thats supports OnePlus charging technology also known as DASH charging. In OnePlus 5T, the battery capacity has gone down a bit to 3300 mAH and it supports DASH charging too. Both the sets have got un-removable batteries.

Hardware and Software

On the software front there is not much change as like OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T is also using the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Both the sets have got stock android experience and low bloatware. The catch here is OnePlus 5T has got some extra features like reading mode which is much fluent compared to the older Oxygen OS 4.7.

For hardware, OnePlus 5T has got Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at a maximum of 2.45 GHz. One glaring difference between OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T is that the latter has got two variants of storage of one being 6GB RAM and 64GB storage and the other being 8 GB RAM and 128GB storage. If you can afford 8GB RAM variant then OnePlus 5T is an obvious choice for up gradation. But if the cost is too much then up gradation to 6GB variant version of OnePlus 5T should be reconsidered as it is very less difference with its predecessor. OnePlus 5T is now using LPDDR 4X RAM along with UFS 2.1 2-Lane storage for both storage variants under OnePlus phones flagship which makes the smart phone experience quick and smoother than ever with an overall boost.
