Bangalore: LG is planning to use its in-house processor codenamed ‘Odin’ for the next new flagship Smartphone - Optimus GII reports Korean Times.

The company is expected to mass-produce the Odin processor by using 28-nanometer level processing, applying High-k Metal Gate technology (HKMG) which will probably be displayed in the coming IFA trade fair.

Odin which is known to be using eight cores – four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A15 and four 1.2 GHz Cortex – A7 – designed in an ARM big.Little architecture resembles Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa design.

While A7 cores are for simpler tasks of processing and web surfing, A15 cores will handle more intensive processing tasks related to graphics and 3D gaming.

LG has begun its move into various chip related products to strengthen its competitiveness in Smartphones.

CEO Koo Bon-joon is reportedly injecting more resources in the Smartphone related projects to revive business and the company is striving to renovate itself into a major fables chip-making firm by increasing the number of its qualified chip designers and offering authority to associated divisions.

The company has teamed up with Taiwan’s TSMC in the 28-nanometer manufacturing process.

However Samsung has a different story all together. The recently leaked details of the Galaxy S IV say that Samsung might be replacing its own Exynos Octa 5 chip for a Snapdragon 600. With a lot of heated issues regarding the chip, the company may soon fix it all up after the launch of Galaxy S IV.
