Can India Digest The Price Tag Of BlackBerry Z10?

Bangalore: BlackBerry, earlier known as Research in Motion (RIM) has started the sales of its newly launched Z10 in India today. Actor Ranbir Kapoor, has been hired to promote the sales of this device which compete against Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy range, and other Android based Smartphones. India will be ahead of U.S in getting the Z10.

Blackberry India’s Managing Director Sunil Dutt who feels that Indian consumers are not price driven according to their surveys told ET Bureau that the Smartphone is a platform driven handset capable of getting into the minds of consumers for whom price does not matter.

With regards to expecting significant uptakes of BB10, Dutt said that the company will launch only five or six handsets every year rather than looking at cheaper Smartphones ranging between 5000 and 7000 that would create a buzz. He also added that the company has held discussion panels with 700 chief information officers in India.

The device has an advantage of having both WhatsApp and BlackBerry Messenger which would be a big difference on other handsets he claimed. According to him BlackBerry messenger will control everyone seeing you on WhatsApp.

For customers who look out for meaningful innovations today, it is important to have the right sales promoters in the stores. Besides that building the right channel for distribution, doing market research and concentrating on consumers’ insights were some strategies given by him to capture the Smartphone market in India.
