Max Payne is a third-person shooter game which was made and developed by Finnish developers Remedy Entertainment and published by Gathering of Developers. This game is developed on the lines of a gritty neo-noir style movie. It uses graphic novel panels with voice over to narrate the story of the game. This game is also heavily influenced by detective novels written by authors like Mickey Spillane. This game also has to its credit of being the first game to feature the bullet time effect which was popularized in the The Matrix.

In the game the player has to engage in gun fights to move from one level to another. The game is very simple and straight forward, but there are some occasional puzzling solving elements. The game develops through a Max Payne’s internal monologue. A lot of the game’s levels include surrealistic nightmares and drug-related hallucinations of the main character.
