Samsung Galaxy Chat

Price: Rs. 8000 - Rs. 8500
The Good: What makes this phone worth buying is its price. The phone falls in the budget category and a budget smartphone from Samsung never disappoints. Since all the specifications are low the processor does function well and the phone isn’t slow as we would expect it to be.

The Bad: Samsung could have done better with the camera quality as the pictures are of a low resolution and the colours do not match up to the original product in the picture. The screen also is a disappointment as we cannot view it from all angles and the text isn’t clear and viewing the phone outdoors is virtually impossible.

The bottom line: For the price tag that it comes along with the smartphone is worth buying. But if you are looking for high specifications then you should stay away from this handset.

Design: At the first glance the phone is good looking. It reminds you of the Blackberry design. The phone comes with a QWERTY keypad which has tiny keys. These tiny keys do prove to be difficulty to use in a hurry. The phone also functions as a touch screen. The volume rocker and power/lock buttons are made and will not cause you any trouble in using them.

Processor and Operating System:

If you are looking for speed and power then galaxy Chat isn’t the phone for you. This handset is powered by an 850 MHz single core CPU. But since all the other specifications are also on the lower side the phone manages to work just fine on this low processor as well.
Samsung Galaxy Chat functions on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which gives you access to a lot of fun and exciting free apps on Google Store.

Features and Performance:

Screen: With Smartphones coming in with 4+ inch screen, Galaxy Chat proves to be a disappointment there. The phone comes with a 3 inch screen along with a low resolution of just 240 X 320 pixels. The phone with the screen specifications cannot produce clear or sharp images and reading text on it proves to be difficult. The phone also comes with low outdoor visibility.

But then again before we go in expecting a lot from the Galaxy Chat we must remember that it is a low end budget smartphone hence even the specifications lower than the high end smartphones from Samsung.

Battery Life: The budget smartphone functions on 1200 mAh Li-Ion Standards battery. The battery with one charge promises to give the user with up to 14 hours of talk time and up to 520 hours of standby time. Talk time of up to 14 hours is quite impressive.

Camera: While reading this we must always keep it in our minds that we are talking about a budget smartphone. The phone comes with a basic 2 mega pixel rear camera and it clicks pictures with resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. The colour quality of the pictures is nothing we can talk about, in fact it is disappointing.

The video camera in the phone captures videos with a resolution of 320 X 240 pixels at 15 fps (Frames Per Second)
Storage and Connectivity: The Samsung Galaxy Chat comes with an internal memory of 2 GB. But you needn’t worry Samsung has provided the device with a slot for a microSD card which gives the user the option of expanding the memory up to 32 GB.

Price and Availability: The Smartphone from Samsung falls in the budget category for smartphones. The device is available in the market for Rs.8,500. It is also available on online shopping portals like saholic.com and flipkart.com for Rs.8,490.

Wrap-Up: If you are looking for style at a low price without bothering much about the specifications then Galaxy Chat is the phone to buy. The option of using both a QWERTY as well as the screen does appeal to a lot of people especially the youngsters. All in all it is phone worth buying.

Even though I like the form factor of the device, my girl friend hatted it. She said it looks yaak!
