Nokia Lumia 800

Price: Rs. 22000 - Rs. 24000
The good: The launch of Nokia Lumia 800 finally saw Nokia leave behind the Symbiam Operating system and adopt Windows Phone operating systems. A move that will boost the sales. The design of the handset is very neat and it is paired with stunning picture quality

The bad: Fallout of this smartphone is the poor camera and video quality that it gives its users. The camera quality is a letdown and it doesn’t match the other high specifications. The front facing camera is also missing.

The bottom line: The good factor is that Nokia has finally moved on from Symbian OS and launched its first smartphone with Windows Phone, but the camera is a disappointment.

Design: The smartphone isn’t big or bulky and it fits just perfect in to one’s pocket. It’s just 12mm thick and weighs only 142 grams. The phone has a polycarbonate shell which protects it from damage. The screen is protected behind an AMOLED screen and a Gorilla Glass.

The phone has its headphone jack located on the top and a microUSB port (syncing plus charging port) hidden comfortably behind the touch plastic exterior. On the right had side of the phone you will find the metal volume button, the power button and the camera shutter button.

Lumia 800 comes in various delightful colors; Black, Cyan, Magenta, White. So this provides the users wide variety of colors to choose from.

Processor and Operating System

The Nokia Lumia 800 is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor backed by 512MB RAM. This makes the phone quiet fast and thus easier to use. The smartphone functions on Windows Phone 7.5 operating system. This is one of the fun systems to have on your phone as it is packed with a lot of features. But the Windows Market Place is a major disappointment. The number of apps and games falls well behind the ones offered in the Apple store or the Google Store. But there is nothing to worry as the store is slowly but surely growing.

The updated version of the operating system comes with support for multi tasking and social networking integration with Facebook and Twitter. There are also more active tiles that you can add to personalize your home screen.

Features and Performance:

Screen: The Lumia 800 has a 3.7-inch AMOLED capacitive touch screen, with a WVGA resolution of 800 X 480 pixels. Nokia has incorporated its ClearBlack display which helps in improving the visibility in directly sunlight. But this almost has a negative fallout, the ClearBlack technology makes the finger prints and smears stand out all the more. The screen also has the protective Gorilla Glass that protects the screen from starches and dust. The navigation through the tiles on the hope screen has become easier as the tile size has been increased.

Camera: The Nokia Lumia 800 comes with an 8 mega pixel camera which has a Carl Zeiss Lens. The camera is also equipped with a LED flash and auto focus. Here is the bad news regarding the camera, you have to be very careful about the lighting while taking pictures. The camera doesn’t have the ease and quickness of point and shoot camera but it would record video at 720 pixels HD.
Storage and Connectivity: The phone has an internal memory of 16 GB storage. This is what a normal smartphone has, but the disappointing news is that there is no slot for a microSD card thus limiting the memory only to 16 GB on the phone.

The 1450mAh battery gave a decent showing, delivering a good day and a half of heavy use.

Price and Availability: The Lumia 800 is priced at Rs.27,000 which make is fall in the slightly expensive category. But there are many online shopping portals like tradus.in and buytheprice.com which sells the phone for as low as Rs.22,000.

Wrap-Up: Nokia Lumia 800 is priced in the lower end of the expensive smartphone bracket but some online sites make the dream of owning the phone quiet real. The best part of Lumia 800 is that Nokia has finally moved on and adopted Windows Phone operating system though the camera proves to be a disappointment.

Good soldier of Nokia
Pros:
The new and efficient windows phone operating system is a blessing after seeing those boring rows and columns of apps in Android smartphone.
Cons:
The form factor is fells very plasticy.
Summary:
The lack of Apps in Windows market might be a hindering factor for this phone. It is a good device, but the Lumia 900 is a much better one or I would prefer to wait for the Lumis 920.
