Nokia Lumia 610

Price: Rs. 12000 - Rs. 13000
The Good: The Lumia 610 is one of the first phones that run on Windows Phone Tango. This smartphone falls well within everyone’s budget. The Windows phone from Nokia comes at Rs. 14,000. The phone comes loaded with the popular social networking sires, and also with Nokia specific apps like Maps, Drive, Transport and apps from Microsoft; Xbox Live as well.

The Bad: The only negative that you can point a finger at the phone is its shape. Though it is small, holding it feels like you are holding a plastic box. At the same price HTC and Samsung offers phones that don’t look or feel like a plastic box. The finish of Lumia 610 makes it look like a cheap Chinese phone. The phone has limited memory which will automatically disable certain applications.

The Bottom Line: Though most of Nokia-Microsoft collaborations are expensive. The phone falls in the budget category. It also comes with a variety of apps but the memory backup is low. Lumia 610 is designed keeping in mind the young consumers that are looking to buy their first smartphone and for the information of youngsters there are a wide range of options available for you out there.

Design: The design is bog standard, and a little on the heavy side, but it feels solidly built, with chrome-look trim and tactile rubberized plastic back. Like the Lumia 710, Lumia 610 also comes in cyan, magenta, black, and white. The black and magenta versions of the handset will have a rubberized back unlike the glossy back found in the white and cyan versions.

Processor and Operating System
The Nokia Lumia 610 is powered by an 800 MHz ARM Cortex-A5 processor with a 256 MB RAM. The phone runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system. The sad news that comes along with this phone is that it won’t be getting the latest Windows Phone 8 update, but Windows Phone 7.8 update will be available for the users to upgrade.

Features and Performance:

Screen: The smartphone has a 3.7 – inch capacitive touch screen. The resolution isn’t high but it is passable at 800 X 400 pixels. Despite having slightly lower resolution, the screen produces sharp, clear, detailed images with the colours closest to reality.

Camera: Though Lumia 610 is budget smartphone, it comes with a 5 megapixel rear camera which is backed by an autofocus LED flash. The camera takes pictures of the resolution 2592 X 1944 pixels. It also has a 4x digital zoom. The picture quality isn’t out of the world, it is okay. And if the photographer hand isn’t too steady the chances of the pictures getting blurred are very high and the colours don’t match to the original object in fact the pictures actually come out washed out looking.
But it does have the positive point of being able to switch quickly so that you can take the next picture with minimum delay in time.

Apps: The number of apps comes as disappointment to the user. The phone is being marketed as a phone for the young college person and with the absence of apps the target audience may not be too enamored by the phone. The popular game Angry Bird doesn’t function well because of the reduced RAM and since the Windows Store is still developing Angry Birds and many other apps are not free.
So if its app that you are looking for you can stay clear of this smartphone.

Storage and Connectivity: The phone has an internal memory of 8 GB storage, and a 256 MB RAM The major drawback of the phone is the fact that it does not have a slot of the microSD card, hence hindering the storage of unlimited data on the phone. Free download and using of apps also isn’t possible because of the limited memory.

Price and Availability: It is priced at Rs.12,990, as the main target audience as already stated is the young college student, who may not want to shell out big money for a smartphone. There are many online sites like, and which are offering the phone at Rs.500 to Rs.800 off on the already reasonable price tag that it carries.

Wrap-Up: So all in all, Nokia Lumia 610 is a budget smartphone. It is a good pick if you are looking to pick up a smartphone and are conscious about the price and are big time Nokia loyalist. But you will have to be ready to forego some features which other Android smartphones provide for the same cost.
