Overview: The DEFY range of smartphones were introduced last year. DEFY line up smartphones are managed to stand out from the crowd by being both rugged and feature packed.
The Motorola DEFY+ is one among them featuring tough display with Gorilla Glass protection from scratch, dust, waterproof and even shock proof to some extent.
Design: With no nonsense extra muscles, Motorola DEFY+ combines the compactness and ruggedness to meet the today’s standard. The phone isn’t very thin but fits nice and firm in the hand and is very comfortable to operate with one hand.
The device is made of plastic and at the back it has a soft touch finish. On front it has a tough touchscreen display and below the display you will see the traditional four capacitive touch buttons. On the back it has 5 megapixel camera and LED flash. You can find volume rockers and USB connector on either sides of the device.
Processor and Interface: The smartphone is engineered with TI OMAP 3620 chipset, Cortex A8 processor clocked at 1GHz speed, 512 MB of RAM and PowerVR SGX530 graphic processor unit. It runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is optimized with MOTOBLUR user interface with Live Widgets.
Display: The DEFY+ sports a 3.7 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display at a resolution of 480 x 845 pixels of resolution which is 265 pixels per inch and produces 16 million colors. The display also features Corning Gorilla Glass protection for being scratch resistant and also features multi touch.
Camera: It comes with a 5 megapixel shooter at the back which captures images up to 2592 x 1944 pixels resolution and records video at 30 frames per second. The camera also features autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, image stabilization. Unfortunately it doesn’t have front facing camera.
Storage & Connectivity: The Motorola DEFY+ has 2 GB onboard storage and also supports a microSD card for expanding memory up to 32 GB. In terms of connectivity it comes with SDPA, HSUPA, WLAN Wi-Fi, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP, EDR and microUSB v2.0 for data transfer and charging as well.
Battery Life: It has a powerful Li-Po1700 mAh standard battery which the company claims to offer talk time up to 7 hours 10 minutes and standby time of up to 384 hours.
The Bottom Line: Overall the Motorola DEFY+ is not a bad smartphone by any means. The IP67 certification for being rugged is the valuable point to notice. Apart from its ruggedness it is packed with well features and the MOTOBLUR user interface looks good and decent and also has flash support for web browser, so what more you need from a mid ranged smartphone?
