Income Tax Department Confirms No Extension for ITR Filing Deadline
  • Income Tax Department clarifies that the ITR filing deadline remains September 15, 2025.
  • Rumors of an extension to September 30 are false, says official statement on X
  • Taxpayers advised to rely only on official channels for updates and support.

The Income Tax Department has officially confirmed that there is no further extension for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2025-26. In a clear message shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the department stated that the final deadline remains September 15, 2025, and not September 30, as claimed in several fake messages circulating on social media.

The confusion started after messages surfaced online suggesting that the ITR deadline had been extended from the already revised date of July 31 to September 30. The Income Tax Department was quick to respond and debunked the fake news, urging taxpayers not to fall for unverified sources.

“The due date for filing ITRs remains 15.09.2025,” said the department in its post. It also emphasized that any genuine updates or announcements regarding tax deadlines will only be shared through official channels, particularly the Income Tax India handle on X and the department’s website.

To support taxpayers during the final days of filing, the department has made its 24x7 helpdesk available. Taxpayers can reach out for assistance via calls, live chats, WebEx sessions, and the department’s official social media channels. This effort is aimed at ensuring smooth compliance and helping users with any technical or process-related difficulties they might face.
