Where Does Rupee Stand Against Major Currencies


Bangalore: The plunge in rupee value has created unrest among people and it has touched record low of 68.85 against dollar leading to economic distress. The value has been fluctuating and now it rests at 68.62 against a dollar. According to experts, the current crisis has resulted from Government’s prolonged inaction or insufficient action. Since the currency value of any country depends on imports and exports, interest rate, growth rate, trade deficit and other elements of the economy, improvement on this front is expected to make some change, reports Yahoo! Finance.

Various economic factors decide the worth of a currency and based on that, find a list of rupee’s worth against different currencies across the globe as of August 28, 2013 –

1. Against US Dollar (first point)

$1 = 68.23

The exchange rate of India’s currency was $1=1 INR as on 15 August 1947. The value of the 2 currencies was equal since India did not have any external borrowings at that time. However, after the introduction of 5 year plans, the balance sheet of India saw many external borrowings and hence the devaluation of money started. The current exchange rate is $1= 68.23.
