5. Ratan Tata

Ratan Naval Tata, the outgoing chairman of the Tata Group, has donated to charity 6 percent or $50 million of a net worth of $830 million. He supports causes including education, the arts, culture and humanities, health and public social benefits. After Ratan Tata retires next year, Cyrus Mistry who is the youngest son of construction mogul Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry, will take over as chairman of the Tata group worth $98.7 billion. Tata Group is active in communications and information technology, engineering, materials, services, energy, consumer products and chemicals.

6. Nandan Nilekani

One of the co-founders and former CEO of Infosys,  Nandan Nilekani is currently chair of the Unique Identification Authority of India,  a cabinet-ranking position that he entered in 2009 under the invitation of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.  Nilekani has donated 6 percent - about $59 million - of his $980 million net worth – for various charitable causes. In the past he generously gifted 14,000 Infosys shares to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and in 2011, he donated 50 crore to the Indian Institute For Human Settlements.
