His latest recognition is Doctor of Honours from (Health & Wellness Management) fromMedicina Alternativa (ALMA ATA 1962) Colombo affiliated with The Open International University for Complimentary Medicines, Colombo, Srilanka. Having held various positions earlier in different manufacturing companies like Shamsher Sterling Corporation and Phillips India, he started, in 1978, his own manufacturing Unit – VWF Industries Ltd., (Previously Vijay Wires & Filaments Pvt. Ltd.,) to manufacture tungsten and molybdenum wires and tungsten filaments for lighting industry. Today, it has grown into a group of 7 Units bringing about forward and backward integration.

He holds adjunct faculty appointments at the International Centre for Theoretical Studies (TIFR) and the National Institute for Advanced Studies in Bangalore. He was recently appointed to the “High Panel on Science and Technology for Development” to advise UNESCO in identifying emerging trends in international science and engineering. Vijay also serves on the Global Advisory Board of the MIT Enterprise Forum, an international forum for technology entrepreneurship managed by the Technology Review magazine at MIT.
