ICFAI Tech School, a constituent of the ICFAI University, Hyderabad has organized one-day Industry-Academia conclave on Saturday, 4th March 2017 at ICFAI University Campus, Shankarpally Road, Hyderabad.

Prof. Prem Vrat, Former Director IIT Roorkee and Former V.C,  UPTU Lucknow was the Chief Guest for the occasion and highlighted the importance and Impact of Industry-Academia Collaboration on Quality of Engineering Education. He further pointed out some glaring imbalances that exist between Government run technical Universities and completely privately owned technical institutions, when it comes to receiving funds and grants from both industry and government. He observed that such practices which see bent of industry towards richly funded central and State Govt. institutions, in long run, would lead to disaster of higher education in country since majority of graduates are today from private institutions, and statistics tells more than 25% of its graduates are unemployable.

Prof. Vrat also suggested some solutions that industry should offer funds, chairship, internship to private institutions and their students. A strategic initiative proposed by him was international business houses should themselves consider entering into the education business instead of small group of traders, to have a long term goal. Tactical strategies mentioned by him were, offering scholarships, financial aid to talented students who could be the potential employees of the University. Operational initiatives mentioned by him was providing special experience based lectures to the students and the faculty, involving teams from the industry in the selection process of the faculty, co-writing papers with professors and sharing best practices of industry.

ICFAI Group Senior Advisor, Dr. R.P. Mohanty spoke about the need of holding such conclaves for benefitting academia and industry both. Such conclaves results into win-win situation for both the parties. He pointed out the three important pillars of a University are teaching and learning, research and extension activity that should never be compromised under any situations. Each one of them is vital in ensuring growth and success of the institution.
