About us:
The National Institute of Science and Technology was established in 1996 and is being managed by the SM Charitable Educational Trust with the mission to “create engineering minds capable of mastering the global challenges of tomorrow’s technology”. The Institute is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE under MHRD, Govt of India) and is affiliated to the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT). The Institute campus of 60 acres is located at the picturesque Palur Hills about 12 kms from Berhampur and 3 hours drive from Bhubaneswar. The Institute has grown by leaps and bounds under the able leadership of the founder Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali, Director (M.S., University of Houston, B. Tech., IIT Kanpur), Prof. (Mrs.) Geetika Mudali, Placement Director, (M.S.(MIS), New Jersey Institute of Technology, NJ), Prof. Ajit K. Panda, Dean, (Boyscast Scholar at University of Michigan, USA).

About 2700 students are studying in various disciplines of B. Tech, M.Tech (CSE, ECE), MCA, MBA & PGDM at NIST.The entire campus is 24x7 wi-fi connected. For the recreation of students and employees of the Institute, we have Lawn Tennis court, Basket Ball court, Swimming Pool, Cricket ground, Paragliding, Gymnasium, Adventure Sports, Canoeing, Kayaking, Himalayan Trekking, etc. A plethora of rock gardens, fruit gardens, nurseries, water fountains, aquarium, glass house for cactus vegetation, animal parks, etc., make the campus an eco-friendly zone where man and nature coexist in a rare ambience away from the dust and grime of city life.
NIST has State-of-the-art-laboratories equipped with Lab-equipments like, Distributed Control Systems, PLC , Interactive-Non Interactive Process Trainer, Batch Process Reactor Trainer, Level Transmitter Trainer, 5 HP shunt motor coupled to 3 KVA alternator salient pole type with 3 point starter field regulator for motor, alternator & experimental panel, TRANSFORMER Experimental Trainer, AC DRIVE, AC SOFT STARTER, PLC MACHINE & DRIVE, SYMBOLS shakti, Software like, Synopsis, Cadence, IE3D, Tanner, Xilinx, and Equipments like, Vector Network Analyzer, Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer, FPGA Board, etc.

Course offered:
MBA MCA and BE.

Placement:
The Training & Placement Cell (T & P Cell) of National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST) was setup in 1998. Since then the T & P cell has grown by leaps and bounds under the able leadership of the founder Director, Prof. Sangram Mudali, (M.S., University of Houston, B. Tech., IIT Kanpur), Prof. (Mrs.) Geetika Mudali, Placement Director, (M.S.(MIS), New Jersey Institute of Technology, NJ) & Prof. Ajit Kumar Panda, Dean, (Boyscast Scholar at University of Michigan, USA). Presently, Dr. Sudhir Kumar Panigrahy is the coordinator for Pre-Placement Training Programmes conducted regularly at NIST and Mr. Atanu Dutta is the Placement Manager responsible for developing and maintaining the Corporate Relationships. Since from its inception time, it has been able to convince the top IT & Core Engineering Multi-National companies for the recruitment of the graduating students from the campus. The foundation batch of B. Tech students (1996-2000) who graduated from NIST in July 2000 were recruited by Satyam Computer Services Ltd., Hyderabad & this was the first company to visit NIST campus on 17 September 1999. Accenture, Airports Authority of India, BSNL, C.DOT, Convansys, Dell, Deloitte Consulting, Delsoft, DEXCELL, GRIDCO, HCL Infosystems Ltd, Hughes, IBM Global Services, I-flex Solutions, Infosys Technologies, Integra Micro Systems, Kavery Telecoms Ltd., Mastek Ltd, Nucleus Software Exports Ltd, Orange, Polaris, Realsoft Technology, REI Systems, Reliance Infocom, Samsung, SAP Lab, TCS and Vedic Systems were the other companies that recruited our foundation batch students.

The Institute conducts rigorous Pre-Placement Training Programmes for the B. Tech, MCA, M. Tech, MBA and PGDM students to make them Industry-ready throughout the academic year. The Institute has tied-up with IMS learning centre, Bhubaneswar, to improve the students’ communication & soft skills. The Institute has also tied-up with TIME, Bhubaneswar, to train the students in Aptitude, Critical Reasoning, Spoken English, Group Discussions, Technical and HR Interview skills. The faculty members of NIST from all the streams are conducting in-house pre-placement training programmes consists of written tests and personal interviews. The already placed graduating students, who are acting as placement volunteers, are regularly conducting written tests both on General Aptitude & Technical know-how, Group Discussions & Personal Interviews for the juniors at NIST hostels & college campus.

More than 40 Top Multinational and Indian IT & Core Engineering sector companies are hiring our students every year. In the year 2009, the top five companies hired about 400 students from NIST. They are TCS (159), Wipro (117), Infosys (59), Mphasis (38) and Vedanta (21). In addition, numerous companies hired NIST students leading to 80% on-campus placement in the top-notch companies. The T & P Cell assists the faculty members to provide certification courses during the summer vacation at NIST campus on VLSI, Oracle, J2EE, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering, SAP, Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, Spoken Japanese, Himalayan Trekking, etc. to groom the students and make them Industry-Ready. During the summer vacation every year NIST students are visiting the top Institutes of India, like, IIT, NIT, ISI, IIIT, etc. to work on small research-based projects under the guidance of eminent Professors as a part of Academic Internship Programmes. The students are also sent for Industrial visits to Tata Steel Plants, Vedanta Aluminium Factories, ISRO, DRDO, Indian Telephone Industries, NALCO, SAIL, NTPC, HAL, etc. The T & P cell is also conducting Industry-Campus partnership academic programmes, like, the Campus Connect Programmes of Infosys Technologies to bridge the gap between the academics and the Industry.
