MARCH 20179The ability to see the elements in the video with depth as in real life creates real immersion and gives an actual perspective of VR technologyThis was helpful in keeping the mass informed and accept the idea of VR.Moving forward to the current year 2017, people are updated with 360o images and videos, virtual reality games and experiences with the constant upgrade of the gadgets by the big brands. Incidentally while writing this article Hugo Barra made his move from Xiaomi to head Facebook VR division. Virtual ExperienceThe experiences like "Dear Angellica" and "Volumetric video by Intel" are the ones that bring us the real sense of virtual reality. Dear Angellica An Oculus story created with Quill is a high rated movie with less criticism from the experts on the field. The reason being, the story was hand sketched on a virtual canvas which gives you a 3D view of every stroke. Volumetric Video by Intel - The ability to see the elements in the video with depth as in real life, creates real immersion and gives an actual perspective of this technology. Each frame in the video is about 3GB of volumetric data which provides the high quality of immersion. This created the benchmark for virtual reality experiences. In the current scenario, producing these high immersive experiences is limited to only the top brands with years of research and development. The future seems to be evident that people would be spending considerable time from their interconnected e-social life to the next step of evolution in human interaction.10 years ago, we were not constantly checking the social media for news. Today we are bombarded with information that there is even a FACT CHECKING Company to check the authenticity. Virtual RealismLet us do a quick fact check. Is 360o image or video the real virtual reality? Are we giving our clients the actual technology? For any technology to be successful it's not only the software/hardware architecture that matters but also the facilitation of content creation. For instance, many mobile phone companies tried their hands at developing their own Operating Systems (Samsung-BADA, Blackberry-BBOS) but android was the clear winner. This gives us a thought to look at if Content is the Real King!Markets are providing solutions with the existing content, which is like changing the package rather than the internal content. In today's competitive landscape the VR industry is trying to recycle the existing data while overlooking the real concept of this technology. With the market crowding over everyday inventions, companies are focused on the below mantra:It doesn't matter if its full immersion or not, what matters the most is what actually generates value for the end user.Imagine if the realism of information can be preyed by so many eyes with volumetric information and the 360o field of view. What if we could look a little ahead of time from now and revisit the moments, relive the experiences in your life all into the way of seeing it in REALISM? "If another's experience, can become your own experience" then that would be called, VIRTUAL REALISM. Blurring the lines of VIRTUAL and REAL it has to be REALISM ultimately. Finally, when all of the above becomes reality we can see the omnipresence of information in all points of view. Pradeep Dhandapani
