Indian Arm forces and Civil Society Organizations Cooperation on Non-Traditional Security (Disaster Management) With the recent natural calamity In Uttarakhand and past experience we can see that there is urgent need for improvement of the coordination between the various Military Forces and Civil Society working on ground. Lot of confusion can be avoided and relief work can be more effective to save Human life, Animals and materials. India’s financial capital Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Surat 04 Indian cities among top 20 headed for disaster (Ref. Rediff.com News dated 20th Aug 13) Researchers seem to have found out Due to climate change all above four Indian cities face the highest risk from coastal flooding and we have also witness same in past. Flooding, earthquake, fire and explosion are common disaster we are facing everyday. There is urgent need for training and the equipment to face such disaster in future. Government promise to take precaution and make new strategies to tackle such issues face during the Disaster management and unfortunately, this issue has often neglected when it comes to discussion, response and relief. We have to recognize the importance of cooperation between the Defense Establishment and Civil Society and conduct regular workshop on Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief. On 14th Aug we came across a good example when in Mumbai senior Fire Officer alerted his fire Department and send many fire tenders to fight the fire On board Indian Navy Submarine. If we look back during 26/11 incident of Mumbai it took a day for National Security Guard to come from Delhi and fight with terrorists. We have to learn the lesson from past and to make our system strong to overcome such issue in future with following guidelines. 1. Civil Society Workshop to be conducted along with Defense Establishment. 2. Promote Trust and understanding of cultures and modus operandi between Defense establishment and Civil Society. 3. To develop the directory of civil society with their role, function and capabilities. 4. Coordination between Military and Civil Society in the humanitarian and relief effort. 5. Management of logistic and supply in the aftermath of natural disasters. 6. Training program and simulation exercises to be develop to overcome from the effects of psychological trauma on disasters victims. At the individual level we all can start and practice to take up challenges in the event of natural calamities. For this we have to prepare at our Home, Housing Society and Office level. There are many NGO and Institution those are conducting workshop. To make India save and secure we all have to promise to be self sufficient and confident enough to face any Disaster.
