As a Project Manager proper development of the team is critical to a successful project because teams are made up of individuals, individual development becomes a critical factor to project success. Individual team members need the proper development and training to perform the activities of the project or enhance their existing knowledge and skills.

The skill set of resources can vary from project to project , for example in a ERP Implementation project we have to develop a team based on ERP skills and the schedule of the project but the concept of project management  and developing a team remains the same.

Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is an example of motivational theory  it suggests that once a lower level  of need has been met  it no longer serves as a motivator and the next higher level becomes the driving motivation in a person’s life.

Hygiene Theory : Frederick Herzberg came up with hygiene theory  also known as motivational hygiene theory . He postulates that two factors contribute to motivation. 1]Hygiene factors and Motivation. Hygiene factors deal with work environment issues for example hygiene factors are pay, benefits, conditions of the work environment. Motivators deal  with the substance of the work itself and the satisfaction one derives  from performing the functions of the job. Motivators include the ability to advance , learn new skills and the challenges involved in the work are all motivators according to Herzberg.

Manage Project Team Process is concerned  with tracking and reporting on the performance of the individual team members.
