About The University of Essex :

The University of Essex is one of the UK's leading academic institutions. Founded in 1964 when it opened its doors to a cohort of just 122 students at Wivenhoe Park in Colchester, the University has grown in both reputation and size, developing a worldwide reputation for top quality teaching and research.

There are now more than 10,000 students, studying at three campuses across Essex. Academic departments span the humanities, social sciences, science and engineering, and law and management. Essex is the UK's most internationally diverse campus university, with students drawn from more than 130 countries.

Schools And Colleges

Essex Business School : Essex Business School, at the University of Essex, is a research active School offering a broad range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes.

Our industry links across the public and private sectors and our international focus mean we are able to offer distinctive learning and research opportunities across both the Colchester and Southend campuses. The School is organised around the four Subject Groups of:

    * Accounting;
    * Entrepreneurship and Innovation;
    * Finance; and
    * Management.

Faculty of Science and Engineering :
The Faculty of Science and Engineering brings together five academic departments and schools that make diverse contributions to the University’s strategic mission as a globally competitive, research-intensive and student-focused institution.

Internationally acknowledged as leaders in pure and applied human sciences and information technologies from the molecular and genetic level to humans and ecosystems, we are a research-led and professionally relevant faculty. School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering
has a long history of innovation in an academic discipline that is indispensable to the modern economy. The school offers a research core that informs and underpins its dynamic teaching provision.

Faculty of Social Sciences
: Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Essex, a leading centre for theory-driven empirical research in the social sciences.  Renowned for its scholarly work and teaching, its engagement with public debates and agendas, and its extensive training and data resources, the Faculty brings together seven departments and centres that work collaboratively to deliver academic performance under the leadership of a Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

The Faculty boasts an outstanding international research reputation that places the University of Essex as the top university for Social Sciences in the UK.  That reputation has now been reinforced by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) which ranks the University’s work in Government (Political Science) and Sociology first in the UK in those fields, with Economics in third place and Language and Linguistics fourth in their fields. Research conducted by the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies was assessed within Sociology, and the work of the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER) contributed to both the Sociology and Economics assessments.
