About the St.Andrews University :
Founded in the fifteenth century, St Andrews is Scotland's first university and the third oldest in the English speaking world.
Teaching began in the community of St Andrews in 1410 and the University was formally constituted by the issue of Papal Bull in 1413.
The St.Andrews University is now one of Europe's most research intensive seats of learning - over a quarter of its turnover comes from research grants and contracts. The School seeks to equip its graduates with the skills and information they will need to meet the challenges of the business world, wherever they live and work. But this is not a passive process. The aim is to stimulate our students' intellectual curiosity, to encourage them to interrogate evidence, challenge logic and question existing ways of doing things.
The working environment in the School is as vibrant, enterprising, exciting and rewarding as that of the most dynamic modern business contexts. Cultures meet and mix and ideas are exchanged in our beautiful new building, which boasts state of the art lecture, seminar and study facilities, as well as a licensed brasserie and a University museum.
Schools of Medicine : "Medicine has been taught in St Andrews for nearly 600 years but the approach to medical teaching and research is very much in tune with the 21st Century. After thirty years of clinical work in the field of cancer treatment I believe that the opportunities offered at St Andrews to aspiring doctors are second to none."
School of Medical Research : "Multidisciplinary and collaborative approaches have been central to the continued success of medical research in St Andrews. Internationally recognised research programmes in various aspects of molecular medicine, psychology and community health sciences are currently being promoted and extended. Strategically planned new staff appointments over the next decade, and our move to new purpose-built research facilities within the new Medical School building will provide the infrastructure and academic environment to ensure the sustained development and expansion of medical research in St Andrews in the future."
