About Oxford Brookes University :

Oxford Brookes University began life as the Oxford School of Art in 1865, when it occupied one room on the ground floor of the Taylor Institution in the centre of the city. Five years later the School of Science was incorporated, offering a wide range of scientific and technical subjects and evening classes in the University Museum. In 1891, the School was taken over by Oxford City Council’s Technical Instruction Committee and renamed Oxford City Technical School.

Set in a historic student city, Oxford Brookes is one of the UK's leading modern universities and enjoys an international reputation for teaching excellence and innovation as well as strong links with business and industry.

The School is located in modern buildings on the Wheatley Campus set in the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, five miles from Oxford.  A frequent bus service connects Wheatley with the other two campuses and Oxford city centre.   Working at Wheatley are nearly 1,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and over 150 staff responsible for teaching, research, and technical and administrative support.

School of Social Sciences and Law : The School of Health and Social Care has been a provider of professional health care education since the 1920s. As a multi-professional School, we provide interdisciplinary focused pre-qualification diploma and degree courses, for all branches of Nursing, Midwifery, Occupational Therapy, Osteopathy, Operating Department Practice, Paramedic Emergency Care, Physiotherapy, and Social Work. We also have an extensive portfolio of post-qualification, postgraduate courses and research activity.

The school as it is today represents the mergers and developments that have occured since 1891; when the first nurse was recorded at the Radcliffe Infirmary. One of the most important mergers in the school's history was with the Dorset House, School of Occupational Therapy (OT); a pioneer of OT education since the 1930s. Physiotherapy was added to the school's portfolio in 1998. In 1999 the university opened Ferndale Campus, Swindon for Adult Nursing. Ferndale has since developed to offer Operating Department Practice and a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. In 2002, the Social Work programme joined us, hence our current title the School of Health and Social Care. more
