Schools And Colleges :
Hull York Medical School : As anyone knows who has visited our facilities in either Hull or York, HYMS is not the first medical school on either site. Both cities had schools in the nineteenth century, but neither of them survived the changes wrought by the Medical Acts and the foundation of the General Medical Council in 1858.
The University of Hull had aspirations for a new medical school from the mid-1970s, but it was only when the decision was taken to found four new medical schools in the UK that this became a reality with the exciting opportunity to combine the strengths of both Hull and York.
Strong partnership
Among other things, York had strong biological sciences and health sciences departments; Hull had its own Postgraduate Medical School and a large clinical base. This area of the country had been 'under-doctored' for many years, and the hope was that a new medical school would not only pull in expertise and ease recruitment, but also provide long-term improvements to the quality of healthcare in the region, because doctors tend to stay and work close to where they study as medical students.
Hull University Business School : Hull University Business School is a leading UK business school dedicated to the development of responsible leadership for a complex world.
To achieve this, we encourage all those who engage with us to adopt an approach we call 'Connected Thinking' - a perspective which builds an understanding of the complexities in the global business environment.
Through this way of thinking, individuals and organisations develop the capacity to recognise the connections that make a difference and think creatively to lead change in a responsible way, whatever their role on the global business stage.

Cars, aircraft and computers are obvious examples,but it is easy to forget that other things – such as the packagingof the food we eat and the ways we communicate – depend onengineering and technological expertise.

The Department of Engineering is proud of its excellentreputation. In the 2010 National Student Survey, we ranked 8th inthe UK for Electronic and Electrical Engineering and 11th forMechanical Based Engineering*.
We offer a variety of courses in electronic, mechanical andcomputer-aided engineering. Specialist programmes in productinnovation, design and technology, electrical engineering andmedical product design are also available. All of our courses areaccredited as appropriate by the IET, the IMechE and soon theIED.
