Schools And Colleges :

The Business School : Welcome to the Business School
Inspiring tomorrow’s professionals

In recent years there has been considerable growth in both the University and in the popularity of business at Huddersfield. Our School structure is based around our major subject areas of accountancy, strategy and marketing, leadership and management and legal studies through our Law School. We are large enough to support the full range of business and legal provision but also remain close to our learners and generate the friendly and accessible learning environment which so many of our students appreciate. The Business School performs consistently well in the annual National Student Survey in which students are asked to rate their university experience, praising our assessment, feedback, learning resources and the overall student experience.

Welcome to Human and Health Sciences : The School was formed in 1989 as part of the reorganisation of the institution designed to establish a series of units which could control their own academic and financial affairs. In April 1996 the West Yorkshire College of Health was incorporated into the School, more than doubling the numbers of academic staff and students.

It currently employs over 170 academic staff, supported by a School Services Manager, Administrative Assistants, secretaries and technical staff.

The School supports over 4,500 students on academic and vocational courses, studying a wide range of social science and professional courses, and is the largest in the University. There is a high proportion of mature students.

As might be expected in a School with so many practice-based courses, links with external organisations are particularly strong.

There is an active research community in the School focussed around several centres and research groups. In the last RAE, Social Work gained a grade 5, the highest of any 'new' University.

The School of Human and Health Sciences has been fortunate in attracting external funding of close to £500,000 per year to support its activities. This supports several research fellows and a large number of research assistants and research students.

Welcome to Computing and Engineering : We are among the UK's top ten providers of 'sandwich courses' with our commitment to providing a professional learning experience focusing on preparing our students for careers in their chosen discipline. All of our full-time degree programmes offer the option of a work placement year (internship). We place up to 200 students each year, both in the UK and overseas, in companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Nestle, Cummins and BMW.

We hold a successful record for graduate employment with many of our students returning from their work placement with sponsorship and the offer of a permanent job from their host companies. This is reflected in our excellent graduate employability record with 90% of our students entering employment or further study.
