About The University of Dundee :
Nobel Prize winning poet and honorary graduate Seamus Heaney has described the University of Dundee as
"having its head in the clouds and its feet firmly on the ground."

There have been many changes since the University became an independent institution in 1967 following a 70 year relationship with the University of St Andrews but the fundamental aims remain.
These are, as set out in the University charter:
"to advance and diffuse knowledge, wisdom and understanding by teaching and research and by the example and influence of its corporate life."
Today these aims translate as excellence in teaching and research and contributing to the social, economic and cultural life in Scotland and continue to focus the University as it powers forward as one of the UK's top institutions for teaching and research across a broad range of disciplines.
Schools And Colleges :
School of Business : Accounting, Finance, Business and Economics are crucial to the functioning of organisations, the global economy and to the development of societies. We are at the leading edge of Accounting, Finance and Economics developments within the school and this innovaton is reflected in our research and in our teaching.
The research of the School covers a number of important areas such as financial markets, emerging markets, international financial reporting standards, social & environmental accounting, business management practices, critical accounting, Islamic accounting & finance, corporate governance, health economics, international trade and investment, labour economics, welfare economics and macroeconomics. This eclectic mix of research interests amongst our staff means that we have a very vibrant atmosphere within the school which is both scholarly and challenging and our teaching reflects this vibrant atmosphere.

We have an excellent reputation with employers and our graduates are much sought after by leading companies. The recent Research Assessment Exercise 2008 results show that Civil Engineering at the University of Dundee is top in Scotland for its research with the highest percentage of research publications being classed as "internationally recognised" and "world leading".
