Tamil Nadu, Home to India's Maximum Divorces


Quite a few other states recorded a large gap between the WDS men and women. In Andhra Pradesh the WDS among women were close to 14 percent as compared to 2.7 percent among men.

 Assam had a WDS of 2.3 percent among men against 9.6 percent in women. In Himachal Pradesh, WDS among men and women were 3.2 percent against 10.8 percent among females, Kerala 1.8 against 14, Maharashtra 2.4 against 11.7, and Odisha 3.1 WDS men against 11.2 women.

On the other hand the percentage of married population in 2010 was noted to be 57.7 percent against 35.9 percent, who were never married. Jammu and Kashmir recorded the highest number of "never married people" at 45.4 percent against the lowest in Andhra Pradesh at 30.4 percent.

While Assam recorded 42.3 percent of never married people, it was followed by UP (41.6 percent), Jharkhand (38.5 percent), Delhi (38.4 percent), Maharashtra (35.5 percent) and Karnataka (34.5 percent). Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh recorded the highest percentage of married individuals at 61.4 percent, followed by Maharashtra at 61 percent, Kerala and West Bengal at 60.1 percent each, and Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh at 59.8 percent each.
